The Bell Curve
of Pumping™

Have you heard "the higher the suction level is of a pump, the more milk will be produced"? Unfortunately, you're not alone and following this myth can cause nipple/breast pain and damage, and decreased supply. It's one of the issues I'm repeatedly helping clients with in my private practice and inspired me to create the Bell Curve of Pumping.

The Bell Curve of Pumping is finding settings on your breast pump that are within your comfort zone and can optimize your milk supply. Once you determine the right settings for your body - it's a game changer!

Exclusive Pumping (EP):

If you're following a guide or one of the popular flyers you found online...please stop immediately. These can set you up for failure and for the record I'm not a fan of any generalized recommendations that tend to be trending online.

The settings, which may vary a bit depending on your pump, should be adjusted based on your body and how it's reacting. Grab a mirror if you need to and test out different settings. Take note of what your body likes and dislikes.

Nursing & Pumping:

You can find settings to mimic your child(ren) nursing or what body responds to (similar to EP)

During your next few nursing sessions notice what they're doing, are they sucking more rapidly in the beginning with a stronger suction just like stimulation mode on a pump?

If you would like to work with me on a personalized pumping plan which covers how to optimize your milk supply, reach full supply, find your proper flange size and review all things pumping, we are here to assist.
