Question about starting exclusively pumping from birth...

Hello! I'm planning to exclusively pump for my second child -- I had a rough breastfeeding/pumping journey with my first and want to prepare more this time around. I got the spectra 2 from my insurance and plan to bring it with me to the hospital to use right after birth (next month). Do we start the 30 minutes/240 rule of pumping right away after birth? I know it takes a while for milk to come in so I'm a little confused. I've also had someone recommend a manual colostrum collector kit...so not sure what to do. Also, is this in one of the course lessons and perhaps I missed it?

Thank you!!

Hello, this is our free group that is open for anyone to ask questions. Our general recommendation if planning to start pumping from birth is to start with the 240-minute rule which is pumping every 3 hours for 30 minutes for the first 12 weeks with the right pump, flange, products, and schedule. Harvesting colostrum (collecting colostrum) prior to birth is not something we recommend as it can cause pre-term labor and miscarriage. You would want to get approval from your doctor before that understands your history and background. Hope this helps.

Hi all, I’m 4 weeks postpartum and started pumping 2 weeks ago due to supply not meeting my hungry baby’s demands. Using a spectra s2 and currently averaging around 20 ounces in a 24 hour period. I find it takes me at least 40 minutes of pumping to get all the milk out - I have to keep going back and forth between each breast to stimulate little let downs. I get nipple blanching so find I can’t go for a really strong suction to make the process go quicker. Anyone else have this issue? As each pump takes a long time, I’m hoping up find a good wearable that I can use for at least some of the pumps. Has anyone had success increasing supply with a good wearable? Would love recommendations! Thanks

Something could be tweaked with your pump, flange, products, and schedule to help you effectively and efficiently drain breasts of available milk as well as learn to pump based on your body. Pumps are not one size fits all and should be tailored to meet the needs of your body. We offer consults for assistance at www.pumpwithpurpose.com/consults

I would highly recommend getting lactation care to develop a plan with you to ensure you can reach your goals.

Hey, to be honest that’s the one my insurance covered. Now to be fair I though I would only breastfeed and not pump so I didn’t to my research I had no idea about flange sizing and inserts and that I had to pump every 2 hours in the beginning to establish a good milk supply so I messed up big time and I am paying the consequences now as a really bad under-supplier.With that being said even having no knowledge of anything at like the first couple of weeks I would pump 6oz w them mind u with no measurements but i feel that pump did mess me up I also didn’t have that big ol suction but then again it could’ve been my fault since I did everything wrong n I should’ve prepared myself better. Idk why I’m even writing this seems like it’s not even helpful lol Also ur sizes can change multiple times and u may be a different size on both nips one thing I learned is that they are sisters not twins so they can measure differently and that’s ok.

Hey mamas! FTM and new here! I am so curious a lot of the breastfeeding mom groups on FB are against Fenugreek in lactation supplies. Can somebody tell me whyyy?

I decided to risk fenugreek. My first baby I triple fed for 4 months since I was sooo determined. Nothing increased supply.

With my second I decided to try fenugreek. Overnight I dried up.

Thankfully I’ve been able to come back from it, and have been producing again, but it was scary
